PHS Club Descriptions and Advisors

Academic Team
Members involved are challenged to use their knowledge and/or to work collaboratively as a team in competitions throughout the state and nationally.
Art Club
Provides an opportunity for students to extend their knowledge and experience within the arts, beyond the confines of the classroom. The club will serve as a social avenue for students with similar interests. In addition, students will learn through teamwork, share ideas within a community, volunteer creativity to enhance the school environment, while gaining exposure to art and culture through art making.
Bandfront / Dance Team
Combination of cheering and dance which provides students an opportunity to perform at athletic events.

Book Club
Students meet to discuss monthly selected books that have been read. Members also fundraise for field trips to plays and movies.
Chess Club
Members are provided the opportunity to increase problem solving skills, think critically, and make judgments through the game of chess, which has also been proven to improve social habits.
Christian Fellowship Club
An opportunity for students to meet with fellow students to discuss and study the Bible. The student led club discussions strive to implement lessons in daily life.
Class Advisors
Each grade level elects 5 (+) executive officers to coordinate class activities, under the guidance of 2 advisors to plan and develop the activities for the grade level throughout the school year.

Club Unify
Promotes positive interactions between students with and without disabilities, bringing them together in social and recreational activities. The goal is respect, friendship and acceptance. Each month will feature an activity or different topic for discussion.
Comic / Japanese Anime / Manga Club
The mission is to examine how social issues shape literature and analyze the literary value of this visual storytelling medium. The students share an interest in comics and view different genres of comic art and also provides opportunity to students to explore and study Japanese culture through written and visual media. They participate in workshops and presentations with guest artists/writers throughout the school year.
Community Club
The mission is to create a safe space for every student, students of every race and ethnicity. The club is intended for like-minded people to speak to other like-minded people about their experiences with racial inequities, or what they have witnessed/stories they have. The hope is to change the way as students see, respect, and understand each other, to create a more positive environment in the high school and community.

Crochet Club
The club is intended to be a social and teaching group of students who already crochet or those interested in learning the craft. Club meetings will bring students together to share projects and patterns, as well as, learn from each other.
Cultural African Awareness Student Association Club (CAASA)
The club would foster cultural awareness, inclusivity, education, celebrate Black history and African culture, promote unity and a deeper understanding within the school community and neighboring communities. There will be informational forums, annual showcases, and more.
Environmental Club
Promotes an appreciation and understanding of the environment and how individuals interrelate to it.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)
Provides opportunity to students to develop and engage in skills that are a positive training tool for life. Activities involve helping in the community and within school community activities in the food lab setting. Hospitality, tourism, cooking, and baking are the areas promoted by this club.
Fashion Club
Members have an opportunity to design, express themselves through fashion, and meet to discuss fashion trends; incorporating those trends into the school environment. Students host a “Dress for Success” day, and other fashion related activities.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)
An international Christian sports ministry that encourages athletes to embrace their faith in Christ and apply it to their sports and lives. FCA supports community, promotes strong character development, fosters integrity, teamwork, perseverance, and offers leadership opportunities, positively impacting athlete's personal and athletic growth. Athletes are able to navigate challenges both on and off the field.
Film Appreciation Club
Members will engage in collective, in-depth activities to analyze film choices and share thoughts in an open and accepting space. Over the course of the club, members will vote on films to watch and analyze and will have the opportunity to publish reviews on the club website. The officers are all captivated by films, possess experience in movie reviewing, and will ensure a fun environment to discuss all things cinema. Members are encouraged to apply knowledge learned from the club regarding film analysis to movies watched at home.
Fitness Club
Promotes student physical fitness and healthy habits development.

Foreign Language Club
Members have an opportunity to experience a linguistically diverse world and to promote one’s culture through language.
Forensics Team
Members are provided an opportunity to improve oral communications skills, by competing in debate and speech categories at state and national tournaments.

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)
Prepares students for real world professional experiences and career success. Members gain competitive skills for college, as well.

Future Educators of America (FEA)
Provides opportunity for students interested in the field of education, the experiences to foster this appreciation and career path through activities with children.
Future Farmers of America (FFA - Phillipsburg Chapter)
Prepares students for careers and professional leadership in the agricultural field. They participate in regional, state, national competitions and workshops.
Future Health Professionals Club (FHP)
The mission is to increase knowledge and comprehension of health science through engaging activities, educational materials, and team projects. The club raises awareness of health issues, encourages volunteering, and readies members for future professions in health science careers.
Gaming Club (Esports)
Provides students with a safe and inclusive environment to participate in both casual and competitive gaming. Students competing at a higher level can also try-out for our Esports Teams that compete against other schools throughout the state for the State Championship.
Gender Sexuality Alliance Club (GSA)
Provides a supportive, safe and accepting space, bringing awareness to the LGBTQ community, gender identity and gender expression. Various fundraisers provide social events and awareness to a diverse student population.
Girl Up Club (In Her Element)
Members meet to discuss issues effecting women locally and globally. Students design programs and activities to empower girls, while raising money for organizations that work toward achieving equality for girls’ in education, health, social, and economic opportunities, as well as, a life free from violence.
Girls Who Code - CyberStart America
A skills-based challenging competition designed to encourage high school girls to pursue cyber-based learning and career opportunities
Healing Hearts
Students who volunteer time with the elderly in care centers, and as volunteers in hospitals with objectives to provide comfort and boost morale to patients going through rough periods.

Inclusion Club
Inspired by the Special Olympics, this club aims to strengthen connections and ensure that individuals with and without intellectual disabilities are not only acknowledged, but also seen, heard and valued. The objective is to foster "inclusion" within the school community.
Interact Club
Interact Club, sponsored by the Rotary Club, is dedicated to service and creates opportunities for members, based on current community and international needs.
Karux Newspaper
Students participate in a “hands on” experience in Journalism, and publish a school newspaper several times a year.
Karux Yearbook
Open to Juniors and Seniors only. The culmination of class effort is the publication of the high school yearbook.
Key Club
A student service organization, modeled after and associated with the Kiwanis Club. Membership is by application.
Liner Buddies Lunch Program
Provides a small, safe environment for students during the lunch periods, that is conducive to promoting positive social skills necessary to foster friendships, social language, self-control and overall success in school.
Marching Band
The Phillipsburg Marching Band is open to all high school students who play a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument. 8th grade students from all sending districts may also participate. The Marching Band performs at all football games, various marching band competitions, and community events.
Men's Volleyball Club
Provides students the opportunity to develop volleyball skills with a foundation needed to engage in both competitive and casual volleyball, while fostering an environment of "team" building and positivity for all students.
Mini-THON
Student led organization, which hosts fundraisers all throughout the year, culminating in a 12 hour, no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon. Monies raised benefits the Four Diamonds Fund for pediatric cancer.
Mock Trial Competition Team
Members experience the American legal system through a "hands on" courtroom simulation. The mission is to increase comprehension of the historical, ethical, and philosophical basis of the American system of justice.
Multicultural Club
Students have an opportunity to celebrate cultural diversity. Each month a different culture is highlighted and presented.
National Honor Society (NHS)
Recognizes students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Membership is by application for eligible students with a 4.5 gpa or higher in the fall of the junior and/or senior year.
People Accepting Without Stipulations (PAWS)
Supports positive school climate. Encourages student social connectedness and belonging. Fosters positive interpersonal relationships and community connections

Pep Band
A student directed organization providing music at all Varsity Boys’ Basketball games.
Performing Arts Club
Members are singers, songwriters and instrumentalists coming together to create original music and/or perform their own choice of music. Open to singers and students who play guitar, piano, and other instruments.
Phillipsburg High School Theatre Company
Students involved participate in a variety of the school’s dramatic programs; Fall Drama, Spring Musical, Tournament of Plays, and behind the scenes supporting roles with play production, such as, costumes, lighting, sound, and sets.
Phillipsburg Wellness Collective/Club
The mission of this collective/club is to offer wellness, self-care, mindfulness, and movement sessions for students. Each month has a theme of mental health. Offerings are yoga, meditation, breathing exercises, and relaxing techniques. The club also focuses on community outreach and works in collaboration with a Lafayette College local group. The overall goal is to offer a safe environment for students, where they can access tools to navigate life's waves, helping one another, healing one another and listening to one another.
Photography Club
Student creative outlet to express originality and talent through photography.
Pieces of Eight
Pieces of Eight is a chamber ensemble that performs vocal and instrumental music from all eras and styles. It is open to students who sing in any range and play any instrument. The group follows a given rehearsal schedule and performs at Winter and Spring Concerts, and community events.
Poetry Club
A platform for students to express themselves through words, and grow with support of other members in the club who share a common interest.

Pokemon Club
Students have an opportunity to come together to play the game. In doing so, the members may develop an understanding of social cues and complex thinking while learning a sense of sportsmanship and forming bonds with their opponents and peers.

Politics Club
Educates students on current and past issues of politics and government. Local and federal systems are explored.

Sign Language Club
Students have an opportunity to learn American Sign Language, hand signing basics and engaging in “silent” conversations, translating songs and stories. Awareness is raised for an understanding and appreciation for Deaf culture.
Ski Club
A learn to ski program that offers reduced student rates.
Start.The.Talk
A group centered around raising awareness of mental health, fighting the stigma of mental illness and creating a safe and connected space to better our school and community.
Stateliner Communications Network
Provides an opportunity for students to express themselves creatively, collaborating with others on fun and exciting projects, produce, record/film and edit their own audio and video files. Students will develop skills involving technology and filmmaking.
Stateliners Supporting Our Troops
For students interested in supporting the men and women in uniform, by sending care packages and letters of support.
STEM Club
A club where creativity meets science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The club is dedicated to fostering a passion for innovation and critical thinking through hands-on projects, workshops and collaborative challenges. Members will explore various STEM fields, participate in competitions, and work on real-world problems while developing essential skills
Step Dance Team
The Step Dance Team performs a unique dance art as a form of percussive dance in which the participants' entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken works and hand claps.
Student Council
A service organization that presents an opportunity for students to develop character for citizenship and leadership. Representatives interact with peers in the state and nation through affiliation with New Jersey Association of Student Councils. Charity and community service are an integral part of the organization with donations made to state charities.
Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)
Promotes student awareness regarding the impact of drinking and driving. Pertinent literature and activities are provided to students to stress the dangers of driving under the influence.
TableTop Gaming Club
A welcoming and inclusive community for all students interested in TableTop Gaming. A space is provided for enthusiasts and newcomers to explore, play, and share their passion for board games, card games, and role-playing games (RPGs).
Technology Student Association (TSA)
Encourages students to participate in community service, while developing character. Also, increases knowledge of technology in activities in the areas of Automotive, Design/Problem Solving, Wood Working, Photography, Drafting and Electronics.
